Following the success of The Night Manager, another John Le Carré adaptation is on the way from the same production team. Lady Macbeth's Florence Pugh has taken the lead role and Alexander Skarsgård will be joining her in the thriller miniseries.

Park Chan-Wook is in he director's chair for the series, which adapts Le Carré's 1983 book. Pugh is playing actress Charlie, who strikes up a friendship – and maybe more – with an intriguing stranger named Becker (Skarsgård) while on holiday in Greece in the 1970s. But while he seems interested in her, it turns out that he has an ulterior motive: an Israeli intelligence officer, he draws her into a high stakes plot and puts her performance skills to the death in a life-or-death situation.

"To play an enigmatic man who hides his true feelings deep inside, I couldn’t think of a more fitting actor," says Park. "I believe Skarsgård’s growing depth as a great character actor and his soaring energy will elevate The Little Drummer Girl to a higher place."

Amanda Coe wrote the script, and The Ink Factory BBC One and US network AMC are once again teaming up for the six-part drama, due to kick off shooting early next year. Skarsgård has a few movies on the way, including Duncan Jones' Mute and romantic war drama The Aftermath.
