After years of rumours and development talk, the sequel to Coming To America, currently known as Coming 2 America is adding to its cast. Director Craig Brewer has Jermaine Fowler on board for an unspecified role.

1988's John Landis-directed original found Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem, who travels from his wealthy African home to New York with faithful sidekick Semmi (Arsenio Hall) to avoid an arranged marriage and find a wife he loves for her brains and wit instead of her family connections.

Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who wrote the original, took a few passes at the script, and it's now in the hands of Black-ish creator and Girls Trip writer Kenya Barris, who'll also produce. No official word has emerged about the plot, though there's been mention of Akeem learning of a long-lost son, and returning to the States to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda. Could Fowler's character end up as that very sprog?

The actor, seen in films such as Sorry To Bother You, has also appeared in upcoming indie Buffaloed. As for Coming 2 America, the comedy sequel is currently scheduled for a 7 August, 2020 release in the States and 18 December the same year over here.
