The revenge thriller is territory oft-visited by filmmakers, and it's rare that one can find a new take on the genre. From the looks of the first trailer (and the rapturous responses to festival screenings), writer/director Coralie Fargeat has managed that trick with Revenge.
This twisted tale of vengeance stars Matilda Lutz as Jen, who arrives at a remote desert villa with married millionaire boyfriend Richard (Kevin Jannsens) for a romantic weekend getaway. But their love-fest is rudely interrupted when his hunting pals show up. What starts as inappropriate advances towards her escalate into outright assault and while they try to hide the evidence – literally, in Jen's case – they discover she's harder to get rid of than anticipated.
Burning with a desire for payback, Jen becomes a one-woman hunting party of her own. Shot through with a sense of humour and some striking visuals, Revenge will be in UK cinemas on 11 May.
