Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard is swapping Demogorgons for Dutch art with his next move in Hollywood. Fresh from continuing his role in Netflix’s hit retro sci-fi series and fronting The Losers’ Club as Richie Tozer in IT, the Canadian actor is joining the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s novel The Goldfinch.

Wolfhard will star in the key role of Boris, the trouble-making friend of Ansel Elgort’s lead character Theo. The part will pitch Wolfhard as a hard-partying hellraiser, introducing Theo to a drugs-and-alcohol fuelled lifestyle in Las Vegas.

The novel takes place during two periods in Theo’s life, initially following him as a young teenager dealing with the death of his mother in the wake of a terrorist attack at a New York art gallery, and catching up with the character later in life as he attempts to recover a famous painting. Wolfhard’s Boris will appear during Theo's younger years, with Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard taking over as Boris when Theo re-encounters him in later life.

Also starring in the film are Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, and Luke Wilson, with Brooklyn director John Crowley at the helm. The Goldfinch is set to shoot in the coming weeks for an October 2019 release.
