Without a book, there would be no Blade Runner. And while the original film and last year's Blade Runner 2049 were only inspired by Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, the world of replicants and the officers who chase them down with continue in a new set of books.
It's an interesting wrinkle, since the new tomes will come from a partnership between production company Alcon Entertainment (which made 2049) and Titan Books. While the sequel didn't exactly set the box office alight ($259 worldwide from a $150 million budget), this would seem a practical way to keep the story going.
"We are extremely excited to be publishing Blade Runner comics and illustrated books,” Titan co-founders Nick Landau and Vivian Cheung say in a statement. "The Blade Runner universe has barely been explored; there is so much more there. It’s an honour to be bringing this world to life in new ways for a new audience — and to reveal tales from that universe that you’ve never seen before." There are no details yet on what tales might be told, but the range will include fiction and non-fiction books and graphic novels.
