Will Ferrell

Following the success – though it's harder to quantify given the company doesn't release official viewership numbers, yet keeps handing out fresh deal elements – of Netflix's securing content agreements with the likes of Adam Sandler, the streaming service has now landed Will Ferrell to co-write and star in a new comedy called Eurovision.

Yes, based around the musical madness competition that sprang to life in 1956 and this year saw 43 countries competing, the film will presumably find Ferrell as a contestant. There's nothing about the plot yet, though, as it appears to be early days. Ferrell will produce via his Gary Sanchez company (which already has holiday comedy Ibiza on the site) and is writing the script with Casa De Mi Padre's Andrew Steele.

So expect a lot of boom-bang-a-boom and the wackiest costumes Ferrell can squeeze into, assuming of course, he's actually going to get on stage, which seems likely given his occasional singing performances in the likes of Step Brothers, Anchorman and on Saturday Night Live. He'll be back on our cinema screens this 26 December with Holmes And Watson.
